With so many phones available and so many different memory options, one thing everyone would like to know is what is the actual usable internal storage of your phone. The vendors advertise 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64GB models of their phones but do they actual contain this amount of usable memory? Or is this ia marketing gimic with the actual memory being much lesser. Well today we will take a look at some of the most popular phones and tablets and see how much actual usable storage they actually have.
|Phone Model||Advertised Memory (GB)||Actual Memory (GB)||% Free|
|Galaxy Note 2||16||10.36||65%|
|Galaxy S Duos||4||1.78||45%|
|Galaxy Tab 2 7.0||8||4.5||56%|
|HTC One X||32||26||81%|
|HTC One S||16||10.2||64%|
|HTC EVO 4G||4||1.1||28%|
The question is where does this memory go? Do the mobile phone vendors “cheat” us and include lesser memory than advertised. Well this is both true and false. It is true in the sense that yes when a company advertises a phone as being 16GB it should have 16GB for you to use. However it is false in the fact that the phone that is advertised as 16GB actually does have 16GB memory but the system, partions and kernel take up a significant amount of memory. See the image below as an illustration of what we are trying to explain! The S3 has 11.95GB out of 16GB as usable!
And another example of actual usable internal storage usage on an iPhone which has 13.75GB out of 16GB free!
How much is the actual usable internal storage of your phone? Do post in the comments below. Thanks
